Breast Cancer Delayed Diagnosis
Breast cancer. With just two words a doctor can strike fear in the hearts of women, men and families. Fortunately, with early diagnosis and treatment, the survival rate is high. The unfortunate fact is that many cases go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed, which can lead to much more aggressive treatment being required, or even the premature death of loved ones.
The law firm of Biancheria & Maliver P.C. provides legal consultation and representation to people in Pennsylvania who are suffering from a delay in the diagnosis of or misdiagnosed breast cancer, or other forms of medical malpractice.

Breast cancer can be missed in several ways
Breast cancer can be missed in several ways. Screening mammograms can be misread by radiologists. These tests are done in healthy women with no breast lumps. Sometimes they are read by unqualified or simply sloppy doctors who do not pick up abnormalities. Sometimes this goes on for years.
Breast lumps even with normal mammograms , require evaluation. All cancer does not show on a mammogram. I have recently litigated a case where three years went by where a lump was "observed" by a woman's doctor because mammograms were "normal." That is NOT okay. All lumps must be evaluated. Three years is long enough to give even a slow-growing cancer time to metastasize to lymph nodes and spread.
The Impact of a Delay in the Diagnosis of Breast Cancer
With advances in science and medicine, and with routine screenings such as breast self-exams and mammograms, early detection of malignant breast tissue is possible. Often, cancerous tissues detected in early stages can be removed with relatively minor surgery.
The tragedy is that far too many men and women engage in self-exams and other preventative measures only to have their doctors misdiagnose a cancer as benign and/or fail to follow up initial test results with a biopsy. A misdiagnosis or delay in the diagnosis can allow a small cancerous area of the breast to quickly metastasize into surrounding tissues, bone and lymph.
These larger tumors require more aggressive treatment such as painful mastectomy operations, chemotherapy and radiation treatments. If these treatments are unsuccessful, breast cancer can prove fatal.
At Biancheria & Maliver, the lawyers focus their practice exclusively on medical malpractice, with a passion for protecting clients and for holding negligent medical professionals accountable for the pain, suffering and loss they cause. The firm's legal team thoroughly investigates each case and builds solid arguments for maximum fair compensation.
