Negligent Failure to Intubate and Failure to Properly Intubate
The purpose of intubation is to ensure a patient receives an adequate supply of oxygen to the blood to avoid injury to the brain and to other vital organs. Though it is a routine procedure, problems may arise in the process of intubation, or doctors may be negligent in their failure to intubate a patient. Either can cause disabling injuries or death.
Poor intubation may cause an insufficient supply of oxygen to the patient, which could lead to catastrophic brain damage. Further, a mistake during intubation may cause air to be pumped into the stomach instead of into the lungs, resulting in death to the patient.
